Spring 2011

Sandy Askey-Adams, was elected a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. She also had three of her pastels accepted into the  "Paint America Top 100" competition. They will go on a national tour throughout 2011. Sandy has work featured in a couple of new books that were recently published for 2011: "100 Artists of the Mid-Atlantic" and "Best of Landscape Artists. Her painting, "In the Stillness," was awarded a bronze medal in the Paint the Forests national art competition.

Judith Einstman has  a small pastel in the Seventh Annual Northeast National Pastel Exhibition in the Art Center in Old Forge, NY. The show runs from May 14th through June 25th.

Lynn Goldstein, a Virginia pastel artist has been awarded a one month artist residency in Dinan, France. Lynn will be living and painting in Dinan for the month of November 2011. At the end of her one month stay, one piece that was created while there will be selected to be included in the permanent collection at the museum in Dinan. Additionally, Lynn's pastel painting "Dark and Light" was selected for inclusion in the 2012 Workhouse Art Center calendar.

Linda Harrison-Parsons received an award for her pastel "By My Side" from the 250th Anniversary juried show of Veterinary Medicine. She also received a 2nd place award at the spring show for the AZ Arts Alliance Gallery for her pastel "Feather" in Scottsdale, AZ.  Linda will be teaching a plein air workshop through the Historic Society of Frederick County, MD June 4th-5th (rain dates June 11th &/or 12th)  Demonstrations in pastel, under painting in watercolor and watercolor. By My Side by Linda Harrison-Parsons

Jean Hirons will be the featured artist at the Waverly Street Gallery ( in April. Her show, "Shore Houses," will run from April 5-May 7 with reception April 8, 6:00-9:00.  The hours are Tues.-Sat. 12:00-6:00.

Elaine Hochreiter will have 22 original oil paintings on display in an exhibit titled Lakes, Streams & Fields at Slayton House Gallery from March 17 to April 16. The opening reception is Sunday, March 20 from 3 - 5 PM.

Betsy Kellum's painting, Black-Eyed Susans & Pear, was accepted into the Pastel Society of the West Coast's 25th annual Pastels, USA, Haggin Museum, Stockton, California, April-July 2011.

Susan Klinger had a painting juried into this year's Northeast National Pastel Exhibition in Old Forge, NY. The show runs from May 14 until June 26.

Lisa Mitchell received an Honorable Mention in the recent Pastel Journal, Pastel 100 Competition. Her landscape piece entitled, “Look Beneath the Surface” was published in the PJ, April, 2011 edition.

Lisa received a Finalist award in the February, Bold Brush Competition, (juror, Marc Hanson) for her painting entitled, “Moving On”.

Lisa is exhibiting 5 pastel paintings in the “Each One Invites One” exhibition at the McBride Gallery in Annapolis, Maryland. The show opened on March 20, with an artist panel discussion. The show will run until April 10. Other artists in this show are; Sam Robinson, Louis Escobedo, Terry Miller, Cindy House, Paula Waterman, Ed Hatch, Leslie Belloso, James Coe and Gary Brookins.

Lisa, along with several other plein air artists will be showing 8 paintings each of their plein air work focusing on landscapes of the North Balt. Co. region. Jack Pardue was recently chosen as the next box top artist for Great American Artworks in Cincinnati, OH. He went to Ohio and picked the pastel colors for the 78 color set. The box will be available in several months.

Jack did a painting on site with colors that he picked (see image below).

The Washington Society of Landscape Painters has chosen one of Jack's pastel paintings to be used on a full page ad in the Galleries Magazine to announce the Major Show at the Edison Gallery in Washington, DC. The image will be used on a poster and an e-mail promotion.

Jack, has eight workshops lined up for the year. They are in Washington, DC, Hendersonville, NC, Jesup, GA, Mount Vernon, WA, Toledo, OH, Albuquerque, NM, Leesburg, FL, and Apalachicola, FL. Please see Jack's website for workshop dates.

Concetta C. Scott has a one person exhibit at the Crossroads Gallery at Goodwin House Bailey's Crossroads. The show runs from February 24- April 17 2011. The show is called "Paintings In Series", and includes watercolors, pastels and alkyds.

Elroy Williams' piece, “The Distraction,” was selected by juror Harriet Lesser as the 1st Place Winner of our 20th Annual Strathmore Artist Juried Exhibition.  The show runs from February 26, 2011 - April 2.
