In The Stillness by Sandey Askey-Adams

Sandy Askey-Adams won first place and also a bronze medal in region 8, East coast of the U.S., in the National "Paint the Forests" art competition for her painting "In the Stillness". Also, her pastel paintings have the honor of being featured in the newly published book titled "100 Artists of the Mid-Atlantic." The author of the book is Ashley Rooney. The book is now available on Four of Sandy's pastel works are featured in another new book titled:  "Best of Worldwide Landscape Artists."  

Philip Bennet had 18 paintings in his November solo show at the Glenview Mansion, Rockville Civic Center, which was featured in a two page write-up with some photos from the show in the Bethesda, Gazette. By going to you can read the article. Also, he will be part of a five participant April 2011 group exhibit titled "Prints Charming "at the Ratner Museum, 10001 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD (301-897-1518). The opening reception is Sunday, April 3 from 1:30-3:30.

Cher Compton's pastel, "Moon at Rest" was accepted to the national juried exhibition Small Wonders at the MFA Gallery in Annapolis and was sold during the exhibit. She will be teaching a pastel class at Howard County Recreation and Parks starting on February 27. She also continues to teach classes at her studio.

Bonnie Ferguson Butler announces a new affiliation with The Loft Gallery in Occoquan, VA in addition to her association with the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, VA.

Elaine Hochreiter will have thirty original oil paintings on display at Gallery at Woods in Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church from January 12 to February 20, 2011. The church is located at 611 Baltimore/Annapolis Blvd., Severna Park 21146. The gallery is open Monday – Friday from 9 am to 9 pm, Saturdays by appointment and Sundays from 8am to 1 pm. If you are in the area please stop by to view Elaine’s landscape paintings.

Greg Johannesen had two plein air pieces juried into the 2010 Susquehanna Art Competition: the theme is River Art. The juried entries will be published in a book, River Art: 2010 Susquehanna International Art Competition by Sunbury Press, in late January and can me found at and Barnes & Noble stores.

Susan Klinger was part of a 4 artist show, “Tis the Season” at Off the Wall Gallery in Skippack, PA in December 2010. She also had 2 pastel paintings accepted into the Works on Paper show at the Philadelphia Sketch Club, 235 South Camac St., Philadelphia, PA.  The show runs January 7 -22 with the reception on January 9, 2011 from 2 – 4 PM.

Barbara Kirchner is pleased to have had three miniature paintings accepted into the annual International  exhibit of the National Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society, held at Strathmore Mansion in November/December 2010.

Sunray Market by Michael McGurk

Michael McGurk was awarded 2nd place for "Sunray Market"  in the International Paintings and Drawings Online Competition and "Studio Fan" is included as a top 100 finalist. The online exhibit opens Jan. 15 , 2011 through 12/31/2011. Juror Greg Biolchini.

Sotterley Cow Barn by JoEllen Murphy

JoEllen Murphy's painting "Knitting" was accepted into the 17th annual IAPS web show. She was also the November cover artist with a feature story about her pastel work in Northern Virginia's Elan magazine. Her pastel painting "Night Out" was on the cover. "Night Out" also won a merit award at the MPS annual juried members show at the Columbia Arts Center. Her painting "Sotterley Cow Barn" won an honorable mention award in the Art League of Alexandria December All Media show.

Bob Russin had three of his paintings juried into the book the Best of Worldwide Landscape Artists available from Kennedy Publishing,, in mid February.

Gladiola Blue by Kay Sandler

Kay Sandler received the Ginny Coombs Award for Excellence for her "Twilight Poppies #2" in the Philadelphia Water Color Society's 110th Anniversary International Exhibition of Works on Paper.  Kay attained Signature Membership in the PWCS with this piece. Kay's "Poppy Family" received a Purchase Award at the 42nd Annual Watercolor West Exhibition.  Her watercolor was purchased by Redlands Community Hospital. Kay received an Honorable Mention for "Gladiola Blues" at the Pastel Society of North Florida's 11th Biennial National.

Vintage Appeal by Lisa Sheppard

Lisa Sheppard's painting "Anticipation" was honored at The Carroll Arts Council with the ‘Artistic Excellence Award’ at the Annual Members Show. At the annual MPS Member’s Show “Redbud and Rust” received the ‘Pastel Society of America Award’. “Vintage Appeal” was accepted to be the only pastel medium entry for the Carroll Arts Council’s ‘Audrey Bodine Invitational Exhibit’. All Carroll County artwork entered was to be inspired by the iconic Maryland photographer’s work. Barbara Steinacker's Five pastel portraits are included in a show entitled "Portraits of Life" along with work of five other portrait artists at the Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, MD from January 3-30, 2011.  All are invited to the reception on Saturday, January 8, 3-5 p.m.  

Elroy Williams will be exhibiting at the Kentlands Mansion in Gaithersburg MD, November 30, 2010 through January 23, 2011. The reception is on December 7. He will be showing works in various media including pastels. Included in the show are two other artists.
