Different Levels of Membership

    There are four categories of membership in the Maryland Pastel Society: Signature Members, Artist Members, Patron, and Corporate.   Below you will find more details about each category and a downloadable version of our membership application.     SIGNATURE MEMBERS - Annual Dues $30
    To receive Signature Member status, an applicant's work must be juried.  (See instructions below.)  Accepted Signature Members may serve as elected board members and may be committee coordinators.

    Accepted Signature Member artists will receive the following:

  • Opportunities to exhibit artwork in all MPS Signature Member exhibitions.
  • Opportunity to have a page in the MPS web site Artist Gallery.
  • Opportunity to submit artwork for the biennial MPS "Member's Only" show and the biennial MPS "Shades of Pastel"  National Juried Exhibition.
  • Invitation to attend general meetings, workshops, paint-outs, critiques and other MPS special events.

    To apply for Signature Member status please include:

  • 5 slides or a CD of 5 digital images of your best artwork (soft pastel only and created within the past 2 years).
  • Current resume
  • $30.00 application fee and completed downloadable application form

    Send all of the above to, The Maryland Pastel Society, 1107 Greenway Road, Cockeysville, MD. 21030, attention: Linda Light, membership chair. (In the event the application is not accepted please send along a self-addressed stamped envelope for the return of your check, cd or slides).

    Our board reviews images and resumes during each of the four scheduled board meetings. Our board meeting dates are listed on our website calendar. If you are interested in applying please send your submission 2 weeks prior to a board meeting. Our membership chair will contact you with the results within a week after the review of your artwork.     For cd submission: (Preferred)
    Print your name (clearly) on your cd with a black permanent marker. Copy five (jpeg) images to a cd at 300 dpi. They should be approximately 1200 X 1800 pixels in dimension. Please make sure the images are cropped properly before copying them to the cd. Include a list with the title and size of each painting.

    ARTIST MEMBER - Annual Dues $20
    Artist members enjoy the same benefits as Signature Members, except they may not exhibit work in MPS Signature Member exhibitions, nor have a page on the web site.  Artist members are welcome to serve as assistants on committees, but may not serve as board members or coordinators.

    PATRON MEMBER - Annual Dues:   $35,    $50,    $100,    $500
    Patron memberships are available for anyone wishing to support the arts.  Patrons enjoy the newsletter "Shades of Pastel" and are invited to all events sponsored by the Maryland Pastel Society.  A Patron's generous donation is tax deductible and helps pay for general operating expenses and expenses for all the programs the MPS brings to the community, such as workshops, lectures, and exhibitions.  

    CORPORATE MEMBER - Annual Dues:   $100,    $500,    $1,000
    Corporations wishing to support the arts may also contribute to the organization.  A corporation's generous donation is tax deductible and helps the MPS bring the following programs to the community: pastel exhibitions throughout the state of Maryland and Washington DC., demonstrations and lectures by local and nationally acclaimed pastel artists, Maryland Pastel Society's Member's Only and National Juried pastel competitions,  and workshops by nationally acclaimed instructors (open to the public).
