FALL MEMBER MEETING, SAT., OCT., 24

Dear Members,

It's Election Time Again!

At our Fall meeting on Saturday, October 24, (12:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Glenwood Community Center, 2400 Route 97, Cooksville, MD.) all MPS members in good standing (meaning you've paid your 2009 dues) will have the opportunity to elect the new slate of MPS Executive Board members who will serve for the next two years. There are five positions to be filled: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, and Corresponding Secretary. The current slate is as follows:

   * For President, Deborah Maklowski

   * For Vice President, Linda Light

   * For Treasurer, Joyce Lister (currently serving in this position)

   * For Recording Secretary, Barbara Steinacker (currently serving in this position)

   * For Corresponding Secretary, Lisa Sheppard (currently serving in this position)

Remember, any Signature Member is eligible and welcome to run for any of these positions. If you would like to have your name added to the ballot for any one of these positions, please send your artists bio/resume and a short statement (one page or less) describing (1) why youre interested in and (2) how you're qualified for the position to Deborah Maklowski, either by email (debmak@comcast.net) or by post (8329 Chestnut Farm Lane, Ellicott City, MD, 21043). The deadline for candidacy submissions is THIS COMING SATURDAY, October 10.

After the election we'll be moving on to a fantastic demonstration given by MPS Signature Member, John Held, a well known painter of gorgeous skies! John says that he has always particularly loved using pastels to create stunning and dramatic skies.  "Painting skies gives me almost unlimited freedom to explore color and light," he states.  "And pastels give me the spontaneity and vibrant colors which no other medium gives me."

In this demo, he will be working with Townsend pastel paper, and will demonstrate how to utilize the unique qualities that pastels have in doing such works.  Autumn typically provides the most spectacular skies of the year so come be inspired and learn how to capture the beauty from above.

We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming meeting and please bring in a few of your current works to share with our members. A few snacks would be nice, too!

Sincerely,

Your MPS Board
