What's Happening This Spring?

Lynn  Goldstein, has moved to a larger working studio at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia where she continues to paint, teach weekly group classes and teach private students. Her new studio is located in Building 4, Studio 410. Additionally, Lynn's work "Quietude" was accepted in the 6th Annual Northeast National Pastel Exhibition at the Arts Center, Old Forge, New York. This exhibition is taking place June 12 until July 11 and was judged by Lorenzo Chavez.

Restaurant Boogie Woogie by Carol Greenwald


Carol  Greenwald, won the first place award in the pastel category at the Chevy Chase Women's Club show. The show was the weekend of March 26-28. She will be having a gallery showing of her pastel paintings with two other members of the Somerset Group at the Yellow Barn Gallery in Glen Echo Park on the weekend of May 1-2. Hours are noon to 5pm with a reception for the artists on Sunday May 2 from noon to 2 pm.

Linda  Harrison-Parsons, has been invited to instruct a Plein Air pastel workshop in New Mexico for artists of all levels. September 20 - 30, 2010, session one: Five days at Ghost Ranch, visits to Chaco Canyon. Meals included at Ghost Ranch, cost $950.00 for each session, $1400.00 for both, pick up & drop off at Albuquerque Airport, does not include airfare. Visits to Santa Fe Galleries before heading to Ghost Ranch. Session two Taos & the Enchanted Circle. Working at Eagle's Nest, Rio Grand Gorge, Taos Pueblo and Sangre de Christo Mountains. May  21-23, Second Annual Mountain Laurel Show, hosted by Linda Harrison-Parsons & Marilu Tousignaut  at 5536 Etzler Road, Frederick, MD. John Davis Held is having an exhibition of his work for the rest of April at "Artesanos Don Bosco" at 828 S. Charles St. Baltimore, 21230. Twenty two pastel and oil paintings are on display, in this beautiful space. There is also their usual assortment of absolutely gorgeous hand-made wood and stone furniture from the Andes mountains in Peru. The reception is April 17th between 3 and 5. All MPS members are invited to share a glass of wine.

Joan Howe's painting of "Urubamba River-Cuzco, Peru"  was  juried into the "Art On Paper" national competition show at the Maryland Federation of Art. The show will run until April 18th.

Susan  Klinger was recently part of a 3 artist show, "3 Susans" at Montgomery County Community College, Pottstown, PA, February through March. She is part of a 3 artist show at Pearl S. Buck International, Perkasie, PA. The show will run April 13 – 30.  A portion of all sales will benefit the Pearl S. Buck Foundation. Susan also has had 2 pastels, Lobster Buoys &  Coconut Palm accepted in the 2010 Northeast National Pastel Exhibition at the Arts Center/Old Forge, in Old Forge, NY. The show will run June 12 through July 10, 2010

Joyce  Lister and Lisa Mitchell will have an exhibition of paintings at Wells Real Estate - lobby gallery, 100 West Pratt Street, Baltimore, MD. April 3, through April 30, 2010.

Joyce  Lister, Harriett Weinstock and Betsy Goldsborough held a 3-person
show  featuring figure and  landscape paintings at  The Station North Arts  Café and  Gallery in downtown Baltimore during the month of March. On  view were 30 paintings, 10 from each artist, and one of Betsy's was sold. The Café held an end-of-show event, "Pasta  & Pastel" during which pasta dishes were served and the exhibiting artists along with other artists attending were asked to talk about their work.

Paintings  by Joyce Lister, Betsy Goldsborough and Sally Ann Mickel, were accepted  into "From Fur  to Feathers", an  exhibition of animal  art juried by Christine  Merrill at the Schuler School of Fine Arts,  7 East Lafayette Avenue,  Baltimore, MD from April  17-25th. Hours are 2-5:30pm weekends and
1-4pm  weekdays.  

Deborah Maklowski is pleased to announce that in March she was juried in as a new Associate Member of the Pastel Society of America. Deborah is also preparing for her upcoming Featured Artist Show at the Artists' Gallery in Columbia, scheduled for July. The opening reception will be Friday evening, July 9, from 6 to 8 pm; the Gallery is located in the American City Building, 10227 Wincopin Circle, Columbia, MD.

Maria  Marino's, pastel painting "Ala Maison" was noted in an article written by Suzanne Karnatz, PSA for the national publication 2010 Winter/Spring edition of  "Pastelagram".  

JoEllen  Murphy, participated in an event at Wylie Wagg pet store near Tysons Corner on April 3rd called a Meet and Greet. She brought in some of her original pet portraits for the public. She also brought her pastel box and a stack of Pastel Journal magazines to help educate the public on the pastel medium. She has three giclee portraits there on permanent display. www.wyliewagg.com/

Kay  Sandler, is having a solo show at Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, MD.  The show will feature pastels, acrylics and watercolors.  It runs from April 4th to May 21, 2010.  

Stan Sperlak a Cape May Court House, NJ  artist will conduct two outdoor painting workshops this April and May in Cape May and Goshen, NJ. Additional workshops will be held in the Annapolis Maryland area June 24-26. Students will be guided step by step in the process of learning to paint the local landscape. History of the county, discussions of natural world and art are all part of the daily routine. Sperlak is a noted painter/teacher and author whose pastel landscape paintings are very popular and are shown in galleries and museums across the Mid Atlantic. The class dates are: April 22-25 Cape May, May 16-19 Goshen. All mediums welcome. Cost is $325 for three days, including a pre-workshop reception.
