ANNMARIE'S GARDEN EXHIBITIION

Jack Pardue and Deborah Maklowski Demo at Ann Marie Gardens

Jack Pardue, visited The Ann Marie Gardens during the Maryland Pastel Society Signature Member Exhibition in May to give a pastel demonstration. He set up outdoors and transformed a simple subject into a beautiful work of art. Take a look at the demo in progress.

In June, Deborah Maklowski also went to Annmarie Garden to do an indoor pastel demonstration, in the same space as our show. Deborah started off with a brief history of pastels and an explanation of how they're made and used. The crowd, though small, was lively and engaged. Some were just beginning to try pastels for themselves (inspired by our show!) and so had a LOT of questions. Deborah had brought with her two different painting surfaces, each with an underpainting started on them, along with the corresponding photos. She showed both to the group and invited them to choose which painting she would work on. This not only got them a bit more involved, but it also allowed her to discuss the advantages and pitfalls of working from photographs and to emphasize that the artists has license – has, in fact, the responsibility – to edit a photo to create a stronger painting.

A BIG thank you to both Jack and Deborah for sharing their expertise with others and spreading the joy of pastel painting at Ann Marie Gardens.
